                           GENSAN IFD TO CLIMATE IMPACTS ON ECONOMY AND FISHERY




           General Santos city, one of the Philippine cities most vulnerable to climate change, is the site of the 10th regional conference of the interfaith Dialogue on Climate Change (IFD) on Sept. 30, 2015, at Sun Suites, National highway, General Santos City.

          Climate Change Commissioner Heherson T. Alvarez, he main contab convenor, said that the IFD will enable public and private sectors to better understand climate change, to take precaution and prepare for its drastic impacts.

           “The development and progress of General Santos City will be undermined if the leaders and the populace are not informed of dire climate impacts,” said Alvarez a former senator who chaired the Senate Committee on Environment.

           Some of the most serious impacts that will hit the city and region, according to world Wild Fund for Nature Philippines, include low average rainfall, drought, flooding and red tide.
           Alvarez lauded initiatives of the local government to create a technical working group that serves us local advisory board for climate change adaptation and mitigation.

          “The interfaith dialogues reflect the resolve of various faith groups to establish a participatory mechanism for communities to work together, minimizing the dangers from floods, super typhoons, and natural disasters,” said Archbishop Antonio L. Ledesma of the Climate Change Congress of the Philippines.

           First convened in 2010, the IFD aims to develop entertain unity and action on common local and national climate change challenges. The outputs of the workshop conference will be used in preparation for the United Nations Climate Change Convention’s 21st Conference of parties (COP21) in Paris, France, November this year.

           The IFD is co-convened by Climate Change Commission, the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches, the Climate Change Congress of the Philippines, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy.
