GENERAL SANTOS CITY (5 April 2016) – Councilors Shandee Llido and Brix Tan were proud that the economic atmosphere of Gensan has changed for the better the past two and a half years of the Rivera administration.
Residents of barangay Mabuhay applauded as Llido and Tan gave updates on the improvements in the economy of the city that took place during their incumbency as city councilors.
“Gensan now can be considered as the Convention Capital of the Philippines,” said Llido in vernacular, ”because there are over 200 conventions that happened here in Gensan for the past two years.”
“These conventions are international, national, regional, and local gatherings of businessmen and other sectors from all over the world.”
“And this goes to show that when Mayor Ronnel Rivera became the city mayor, many investors became confident of investing here in Gensan,” Llido said.
Some of the big conventions that were held here in Gensan are the National Hog Congress, National Shrimp Congress, National Palm Congress, and the 1st Regional Micro Small and Medium Enterprise Congress.
The annual gathering of League of Councilors of the Philippines (LCP) also took place here in Gensan.
Llido said that these conventions generated income for the city.
She cited that during these conventions, most hotels and inns in the city are fully-booked.
“Malls and restaurants were also lively during these times because of the flock of tourists and visitors,” she said.
As a proof of this, Tan highlighted that these have contributed to the increase of income in the city.
“When we entered (public service), the annual income of Gensan is just P1.2 billion. By the end of 2015, we are able to increase in to P1.6 billion,” Tan emphasized.
Tan also informed the people that doing business is easier now in the city, as they have updated the Investment Code of Gensan. This leads to smooth business processing and more perks for interested investors.
On the other hand, Mayor Rivera announced that there are already 8,000 MSMEs that are doing business in the city.
“This growth,” he said, “is a big increase because in the past, we only got 1,000 MSMEs.”
Mayor Rivera also assured barangay Mabuhay that he will pave more farm-to-market roads in their area so that agricultural products will be easily transported.
“Lighting your inner streets will also be prioritized,” Rivera said.
Rivera, Llido, and Tan are all running for re-election under the the People’s Champ Movement (PCM).
The entire line up of PCM is as follows: Ryan Rivera (Congressman), Shirlyn Banas (Vice Mayor), Rosalita Nunez (councilor), Atty. Arturo Cloma (councilor), Atty. Ramon Melliza (councilor), Atty. Franklin Gacal (councilor), Atty. Edmar Yumang (councilor), Atty. Jun Lagare (councilor), Jonathan Blando (councilor), Van-Van Congson (councilor), Dr. Love Ladrera (councilor), and Bobby Pacquiao (councilor). (RCR Media)
