SMEDCI
launches 2nd MSME Regional Congress
The General
Santos city Small Medium Enterprise Development Council, Inc. (SMEDCI) continues
to flesh out their advocacy for the growth and development of micro, small and
medium enterprises (MSME) by hosting the 2nd MSME Regional Congress
on May 5-6, 2015 at the Phela Grande Convention Center, General Santos city
with the theme “Patiloy na Linangin Maliliit na Negosyo sa rehiyon Dose”.
Limelight
is placed on MSMEs as this event recognizes their vital role in the economic
development of the region. Their labor-intensive practices generate employment.
Prompt innovation, heighten competition, and contribute largely to the country’s
progress. The future of MSMEs lies in ensuring competitiveness within the ASEAN
Economic Community.
In the second
year, the event intends to increase the awareness of MSMRs on government
programs, potential in the Free Trade area, and opportunities online. The
council looks forward to addressing the most critical challenges and constraints
MSMEs face today which include inadequate financial reporting that limits
access to financing, lack of international certifications, and minimal
marketing and sales volume.
Notable
topics for discussion will include Negosyo Centers in R12; Philippine Council
for Agriculture and Fisheries “initiatives; Doing Business Online for MSMEs;
GSC’s Integrated Food Terminal and Region 12 MSMEs; BFAR’s targeted actions to
Reduce Poverty and Generate ECONOMIC Transformation
in the Fisheries sector, and R12 academic Preparing Entrepreneurs. Updates on
Organic Farming, banana, Aqua-preneurship, and Trucking industries will also present.
Resolutions
passed during the 1st MSME Regional Congress addressing issues on
power, machineries and facilities, repayment schemes, accreditation system,
government support, and security will also be updated. On a side note, the
department of Trade and Industry together with the GSC SMED Council, Inc. and
LGU-GenSan will also launch the General Santos City Negosyo Center situated at
the DTI Ground floor, South Osmena st… general Santos city on May 5, 2015 at
9:30 am, a prelude to the opening ceremonies of the MSME Congress.
