The national government through the Department of Agriculture is meet to dish-out on Thursday      (July 30) more than P1.3-Billion worth of projects and assistance to hundreds of farmers and fishers’ groups as well as to local government units of SOCCSKSARGEN.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala will lead the event – which is his third visit this year in the region – following the DA – Ulat sa Bayan – Peace Caravan carried out in four different areas in North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat provinces and Cotabato City where P0.4-B worth of assistance was handed to underprivileged and less fortunate farmers affected by conflicts.

Amalia Jayag-Datukan, Regional Executive Director of DA RFO-12 said the scheduled visit of the Secretary is aimed at upholding the continuous efforts of the current administration in pushing for inclusive growth by providing farmers with different interventions which could facilitate them in improving their farm productivity towards increased production and incomes.

“Secretary Alcala will personally hand-over more than P1.32-B worth of projects to our farmers and LGU partners to expedite the implementation of various DA projects on the ground and to provide agri-fishery livelihood projects to our farmers which could help them improve their living conditions”, Director Datukan further elaborated.

She added that the activity also aims to sustain the transparency initiatives of the national government by the continuous delivery of remarkable interventions which gear towards the achievement of Food Staples Self-sufficiency Program (FSSP).

Biggest chunk of the amount is contributed by Payapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PANAMA) which is summed up at P481-M which will be received by municipal government recipients.
Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) program, on the other hand, will also turn-over P45.8-M worth of checks and Certificate of Availability of Funds (CAF) to LGUs.

Secretary Alcala will also award Certificates of Objection Letter (NOL) and Certificates of Availability of Funds (CAF) for the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) infrastructure development component at P336-M which will fund at least 16 farm-to-market road sub-projects.

The Aggie Chief will also turn-over projects from DA’s banner programs: Agri-Pinoy Rice Program – P49.5M; Agri-Pinoy Corn Program – P60.9-M; Agri-Pinoy High Value Crops Development Program – P11.1-M; Agri-Pinoy Livestock Program – P2.2-M.

He will also hand-over Certificates of Turn-over for P56.8-M worth of projects from SOCCKSARGEN-ADPO AND P81.7-M worth of farm-to-market road projects under the Farm-to-Market Road Development Program (FMRDP) to respective recipients.

Meantime, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR 12) will also distribute P152-M worth of livelihood projects such as various fishing gears and equipment to a number of small fishermen.
Besides mass distribution of projects, main highlight of the event is the inauguration of the newly-completed and long dreamt DA RFO-12 building at the regional center in Koronadal City where the big event will also take place.
The activity is expected to muster more than 1,500 farmers across various sectors, local chief executives, congressional representatives, and other agriculture industry players.

Aside from Secretary Alcala, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) secretary Luwalhati Antonino and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Secretary Joel Villanueva are also invited to grace the event.

On March 3, Secretary Alcala together with Senator Cynthia Villar handed out nearly P1.-B worth of agriculture-based projects and assistance to hundreds of farmers groups and local governments of SOCCKSARGEN Region at Tupi research and Experiment Station, Tupi, South Cotabato which was attended by more than 3.300 participants (LMSalvo)
