NOW IS LENTEN SEASON, TIME FOR
SELF-REPLECTION ON HOW
TO ACCOMPLISH OUR ONE PERCENT EFFORT TO BE
PEACEMAKERS
Says a
song, “Peace starts with me.” Who am I? From whom did I come? What’s my
destiny? How shall I behave in order to arrive at my destiny at the end of
time? Or briefly, how shall I behave in order to build peace on this earth make
me worthy of that peace that never ends, when I’ve finished my earthly journey
towards eternity?
Lenten
season that begins on ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday relives Jesus
Christ Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, Scourging at the Pillar, Crowning
with thorns, carrying of the cross and crucifixion in Calvary, Of course, His
resurrection on Eastern Sunday is Christ Crowning Glory.
Briefly to
remind us how the Savior has suffered (for even now he continues to suffer when
we sin), the Lenten Season is a great blessing for all Christians who are
sincere and serious of living a temporal life yet it promises eternity of
peace, love, mercy and compassion in communion with the TRIUNE GOD; FATHER, SON
and HOLY SPIRIT, if we live now, fully attuned to GOD’s will.
What’s
God’s will? That we live in TRUTH, LOVE< MERCY and COMPASSION based on
justice. For this means PEACE.
HOW
DO WE REJECT A SINFUL PROPOSAL WITH GUTS?
Surely, if
left alone to ourselves with our fallen nature, so easily enticed by
appearances of beautiful face, sugar-coated words, palatable promises of ease
and opportunities in life that is passing, we oftentimes, if not always fall
into the devil’s trap!
Like what the devil did to eve, the first women in paradise.
It was she who first succumbed to the devil’s lies, coated with smile,
encouragement and poise and without eves careful detection that the truth was
twisted to make it appear beautiful, she did disobey the LORD’S command” you
may eat all fruits inside paradise except that fruits of the tree that’s in the
middle. For if the eat its fruits, you will die”!
Wily as he
is, the devil strongly encouraged Eve to do his bidding”’ for if you eat this
forbidden fruit,” the devil said, “you will become like GOD. For this reason,
God forbids you to eat it,” the devil continued.
Without
reflection on God’s words, Eve made haste to touch and pick the forbidden
fruit! She fell into the devils trap, to the sinful proposal of God’s and our
number one enemy! The devil!
Like us,
Eve had no Guts, God’s own strength to overcome temptations, for she just
listened to her capriciousness, to her love of ease and opportunities. NOT to
GOD, the Giver of all good. Eve forgot that this world is just fleeting,
temporary.
Could we
also say that the main cause for the needless death of the 44 SAF policemen, 18
MILF rebels and 5 civilians in Mamasapano, Maguindanao is the greed for the $9
million dollars and the vengeance against lawless elements? Don’t we realize
that peace is so elusive that it can only be ours if we do Christ’s command
