On the Multi-Sectoral Forum on the West Philippine Sea Issue: The Narrative presentation by ASec. Charles Jose who is the guest presentor in this forum participated and attended by the multi-sectoral group has enlightened most of us who are in attendance in two days activities on SCS/WPS issue.
As explained by ASec Jose said, OUR HISTORY…1. We have legitimate rights in South China Sea/West Philippine enshrined in the International law, 2. But China is claiming what is ours, and 3. We should defend what is rightfully ours.

In the UNCLOS documents: 1. 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, 2.Concluded in 1982; came into force in 1994, and 3. 166 countries & EU have joined the Convention (as of January 2015).
UNCLOS documents also: 1. Philippines signed on 10 December 1982 and deposited instrument of ratification on 8 May 1984, and 2. China signed on 10 December 1982 and deposited instrument of ratification on 7 June 1996.
UNCLOS Provisions: 1. “Constitution of the Ocean” 1.1. Defines the rights and responsibilities of nations with respect to their use of the world’s ocean; 1.2. Defines the extent of maritime territories nations could claim; 1.3. Establishes guidelines for business, the environment, and the management of marine natural resources.

Our waters, our wealth-

1.       PH is 2nd biggest archipelago in the world, after Indonesia.
2.       PH’s 7,107 islands make up only 1/6 of PH territory. The bigger part of PH (5/6) is a vast stretch of waters in and around these islands.
3.       At least 5million Filipinos depend on PH waters for livelihood.

Core Issue A-

One of the core issues is China’s claim of so-called “indisputable sovereignty” over nearly the entire South China Sea (SCS), as represented by the nine-dash line.
